Anti-Deforestation
[an-ti de-for-es-ta-tion]
policies, actions, and initiatives aimed at preventing, halting, or reversing the destruction of forests.
Our Mission
SAG is committed to eliminating deforestation and protecting natural ecosystems across all areas of our operations and supply chains. We recognize that forests are essential for biodiversity, climate regulation, water systems, and the livelihoods of local communities, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our agricultural activities—particularly in coffee and tea production—do not contribute to their degradation or loss.
We prohibit the clearing of natural forests for the establishment or expansion of agricultural land. All new developments must take place on legally acquired land that has not been deforested after established cut-off dates aligned with international best practices. We actively promote the use of degraded or previously cultivated land for expansion wherever possible.
Our company is committed to achieving full traceability within our supply chain. We work closely with suppliers, farmers, and partners to ensure compliance with this policy, requiring adherence to no-deforestation commitments as a condition of doing business. We support suppliers through training, capacity building, and access to tools that enable sustainable land management and monitoring.
We implement robust monitoring and verification systems, including satellite tracking and on-the-ground assessments, to identify and address deforestation risks. Any violations of this policy will result in corrective action plans, and where necessary, suspension or termination of supplier relationships.
We also recognize the importance of protecting high conservation value (HCV) and high carbon stock (HCS) areas. Our approach includes safeguarding critical habitats, respecting protected areas, and ensuring that agricultural development does not encroach on ecologically sensitive zones.
Engagement with local communities is central to our approach. We respect land rights, including those of Indigenous peoples and local communities, and support participatory land-use planning. We are committed to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) in all relevant operations.
We will regularly review and publicly report on our progress toward eliminating deforestation, maintaining transparency and accountability. Through continuous improvement and collaboration, we aim to contribute to a deforestation-free agricultural sector and a more sustainable future.
